The estate is farmed biodynamically using horn manure and quartz preparations. This medium bodied, dry Riesling has beautiful mineral, floral and petrol notes. Serve with grilled fish and couscous.

Wine Advocate

Burklin-Wolf need not stray farther from their Wachenheim home than neighboring Deidesheim in sourcing their generic bottling, and the 2007 Riesling trocken (of which there will have been several virtually indistinguishable bottlings of the same blend) is strikingly successful and polished. Flavors of purple plum and walnut along with whiffs of smoke give the wine a deep, dark aspect, while saline notes in the finish serve for lip-smacking invigoration, and some additional hard-to-pin-down mineral suggestions for intrigue. Here is one of those happily numerous cases where if you can only afford a single one of the offerings at a top German estate, you will be rewarded not only with excellent value, but with a Riesling truly representative of the estate’s high ideals and outstanding sites. Feel free to hang on to this at least through 2014; in fact, it would be very interesting to track its evolution, even though few if any wine lovers will.

Score: 89. —David Schildknecht, October 2009.

Wine Enthusiast

This is a plump, medium-bodied Riesling that exemplifies the Pfalz style, combining some briny mineral notes with ripe fruit and citrus. It’s close to dry, finishing with pleasant peach and spice notes.

Score: 87. —Joe Czerwinski, June 01, 2009.
